Federal Government Reacts As ASUU Extends Its Strike

On Monday, The government of President Muhammadu Buhari is said to have reacted on Monday regarding the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ strike being extended (ASUU).

The union had earlier prolonged the strike by Two months, regarding the Federal Government’s refusal to address problems outlined in a 2020 FGN/ASUU agreement,

The union’s National Executive Council, (NEC), convened in Abuja over the weekend to deliberate the next steps in the strike action, anticipating a favourable response from the Federal Government.

In response to ASUU’s decision, Minister of State for Education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba stated that the government has satisfied all of the union’s requests.

Nwajiuba said all accrued allowances, as well as the revitalization funds asked, have been handed to newsmen at the end of the 2022 Commonwealth Celebration which was held in the nation’s capital.

He said:

“ASUU announced and we met and everything that they have demanded, we have done all of them including the earned allowances and the revitalization fund; they choose to extend it for two months maybe.”
