His family relocated to the state of Indiana when he was nine years old, and he began his education at Sarah Scott Middle School in Terra Haute. Following that, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, with his mother and brother, where he enrolled in Lawrence North High School and participated in the basketball program there. Oden’s high school basketball team won three straight Indiana Class 4A titles under his direction, and he was voted the National Boys Basketball Player of the Year in both 2005 and 2006.

Greg was a student at Ohio State University for the 2006-07 season. He made his college debut on December 2nd, 2006, after suffering a wrist injury that prevented him from playing throughout the first half of the season. Oden had an outstanding collegiate career, during which he was named Defensive Player of the Year and helped his team win the National Championship in 2007. Greg was selected for the All-American team by the Associated Press, making him the only freshman to get this honor since the year 1990. Oden made the announcement that he would be entering the 2007 NBA draft after having participated in college basketball for one year.

Oden was drafted first overall by the Portland Trail Blazers, however he was forced to sit out his rookie year due to a knee injury. Despite this, Oden was selected first overall. The year after that, Greg suffered many injuries and was sidelined for a quarter of the 2008-2009 season. Despite this, he still managed to put up impressive figures in the games that he did play in.

Due to a fractured patella, he was only able to participate in 21 of the total 82 games during his third season. This led to a terrible overall performance. The Trail Blazers made the announcement in November of 2010 that Greg Oden will be unable to play for the entirety of the 2010-11 season due to the need for microfracture surgery on his left knee. This was the fourth year in a row that Greg was unable to play a complete season.

In 2012, Portland parted ways with Greg in order to make room on their roster for players acquired in trades. Oden made the announcement that he would not participate during the 2012–13 season in order to concentrate on his recovery.

Greg finally made his long-awaited comeback to the court the following season after signing a contract with the Miami Heat. During that particular season, Oden started in 23 of the Heat’s 24 games, and the team advanced all the way to the NBA finals, where they were ultimately defeated by the San Antonio Spurs.

The subsequent two years were devoted by Greg in preparation for a possible return to the NBA, although this attempt was ultimately unsuccessful. Oden signed a one-year contract with the Jiangsu Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association on August 26, 2015, for a salary of $1.2 million. The contract was for one year. Greg left the squad in the middle of the season, which was already halfway through.

Today, Oden works as an athlete adviser for Edyoucore Sports & Entertainment, a company based in Baltimore that offers financial education and consulting services to individuals. The company’s primary mission is to assist amateur and professional athletes in better comprehending the financial realities of their careers.

Personal Life

After punching his ex-girlfriend in the face in August of 2014, Greg was charged with battery as well as three other counts related to the incident. He entered a guilty plea to battery resulting in minor bodily injury, and as a result, the other three charges against him were dismissed. Oden and his then-fiancée Sabrina Williams welcomed their daughter Londyn into the world in September of 2016, and just over a year later, on September 3rd, 2017, the couple tied the knot in Maui, Hawaii.
